The pure form of the substance is a colorless solid. In chemical laboratories, phosphoric acid is usually used as an 85% aqueous solution, which appears as a colorless, odorless, and non-volatile syrupy liquid. While phosphoric acid is not classified as a strong acid, the 85% solution can still cause severe skin irritation and eye damage.
